Meet Our Tutors / INDUSTRY EXPERTS

Our Music Production School tutors have over a decade each of experience writing, producing, engineering and releasing music. With their own productions supported and played by some of the biggest names in dance music, they’re excited to share their technical knowledge, creative processes and lived experience with their students.

Gurpaal Bains - Gurpaal Bains is a producer, artist and sound engineer from Brisbane, writing and performing music under GURPAAL. Having spent the majority of his early twenties DJ’ing at various clubs around Brisbane (Oh Hello! and The TBC Club,) at some point he felt he wanted more from music and decided to dive head first into his music production journey. After spending several years locked away in his home studio diving into production and trying to finding his own sonic identity, he quickly realised that this was all he wanted to do. In 2019 he decided to drop everything and build Little Street Studio from the ground up with the hopes of creating a studio space, environment and community that he felt Brisbane / Meanjin and the larger Australian electronic music community needed.

Following on from a strong 2023, which saw the release of his second EP ‘Colourblind’ and him joining Golden Features on his nationwide tour, recently some his latest productions have been getting peak time support from some of the biggest acts in the world such as Solomun, Rüfüs Du Sol, DJ Tennis, Carlita, Pete Tong, Innellea, Kevin De Vries and Armin Van Buuren, at iconic parties such as Circoloco and Afterlife and on radio shows such as BBC Radio 1.

Having been teaching on a one on one basis at Little Street Studio since its inception, Gurpaal looks to share his journey, experience and know-how with up and coming producers and artists to take their creative output and production abilities to the highest possible level. Focussing on a holistic approach to music making that covers everything from the early stages of creativity to bigger picture ideas such as fostering creativity and efficiency in the studio, all the way through to planning releases and getting your music to find it’s audience or into the hands and record crates of big DJ’s, Gurpaal has been through the process over and over and looks to help his students do the very same. Having also been a part of the music industry in various roles since 2010, as a long standing DJ, promoter and booker, he is able to offer a unique perspective in the mentorship of his students.

Mani Singh - Mani’s passion for music production began at the very young age of 13. Four years into his production journey at just 17 years old, one Saturday morning he tuned into Eric Prydz’s 2013 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix as an avid listener and fan. As the second track of the mix started to come in, Mani felt a peculiar sense of familiarity to the sounds coming out of his speakers. Shocked, he suddenly realised that a demo he had submitted for feedback over a year prior and largely forgotten about was being played over the airwaves by none other than his then musical hero at the time Eric Prydz. Since that moment he has been completely hooked on the creative art and technical practice of writing music.

Over the years Mani’s music has gained support from the likes of Eric Prydz, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Sasha, Damian Lazarus, Groove Armada, Chris Lake, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Above and Beyond and Eli and Fur. Not one to look back however, Mani is currently in the process of launching his new alias ‘WAVMAN,’ which encapsulates his long standing love for high energy, entrancing and hypnotic techno. With a forthcoming EP due for release on STUM’s imprint Happy Wax Records in the coming months, 2024 looks to be a strong year and the start of an exciting new chapter.

Having spent years on end figuring out the ins and outs of music production, largely on his own and through incredible amounts of time and perseverance, through teaching at Little Street Studio, Mani looks to share his wealth of experience and technical know how with upcoming producers, helping them to navigate and fast track their own music making journey.
